The internet is amazing, but remember to stay safe!

We use technology for lots of brilliant things. We can learn, create, play games, communicate and discover new things.

Just like when you are out and about in the real world, there are things you can do to help keep yourself safe online.

At Gedney Church End, we want you to feel confident, happy and safe when using technology. If anything ever worries you online, remember that you are not alone and there is always someone who can help.

Keep Your Personal Information Private

Some information belongs to you and shouldn't be shared with people you don't know.

Think carefully before sharing things such as:

• your full name
• where you live
• the name of your school
• your phone number
• your email address
• photographs or videos of yourself
• your location
• information about where you are going to be

Think before you post or share something online. If you're not sure whether something is safe to share, ask a trusted adult first.

Gaming Safely

Online games can be great fun, especially when you play with other people.

However, remember that people you meet through a game are still strangers if you don't know them in real life.

When gaming:

• don't share personal information
• be careful who you talk to
• don't accept requests just because somebody asks you to
• treat other players with kindness and respect
• use the game's block and report tools if someone behaves inappropriately
• tell a trusted adult if somebody says or does something that worries you

Being online doesn't change how we treat other people. Our SPARK values still matter online.

Social Media

Apps and websites have different age requirements, so not every social media platform is designed for primary-aged children.

If you use an app, website or game at home, talk to your parent or carer about it and make sure they know what you are using.

Remember that once you share something online, you may lose control over where it goes or who sees it, so always stop and think before posting.

Be Kind Online

Our SPARK values don't stop when we go online.

Show Respect and Kindness when you are gaming, messaging or communicating with other people.

Cyberbullying is bullying that happens using technology. It might include deliberately sending hurtful messages, sharing something to embarrass somebody or repeatedly targeting another person online.

If somebody is being unkind to you online, tell an adult.

If you see somebody else being treated unkindly, don't join in or share it. Tell a trusted adult so they can help.
